For Authors
Three Pines Press strives to make the publishing process easy, swift, and unbureaucratic. In comparison to established presses, we offer:
- editors versed in the field
- priority placed on Daoism
- Chinese characters
- author's copyright
- higher royalties
- speedy processing
Any manuscript on an aspect of Daoist studies can be submitted. The only limitation is one of space: maximum page number is 250-300, double-spaced.
Before submission, contact one of the editors with a short description of the work:
Livia Kohn: lkohn@bu.edu
James Miller: millerj@post.queensu.ca
If so advised, submit the full manuscript on paper, one copy to each of the editors:
Livia Kohn, PO Box 207, Magdalena, NM, 87825, USA.
James Miller, Dept. of Religious Studies, Queen's University, Kingston, ON, K7L 3N6, Canada.
The editors will have a preliminary evaluation within three weeks of receiving the manuscript. If approved, they will then send it to several readers in the field for further comments. Decision to publish will depend on the outcome of all evaluations.
The process after acceptance is standard: contract, revisions, copyediting, typesetting, and publication. The time from receipt of the revised manuscript to publication should be no more than six months.
The e-Dao series offers an opportunity to publish research notes, unused translations, or other materials useful to the field in an informal way, not unlike the SSP ("Schafer Sinological Papers") of old. Placed directly, as received and without outside evaluations, onto our website, materials should be around 100-200 pages in length. Royalties will amount to 40% of price. Submission via email attachment to www@threepinespress.com.
